He is also responsible for the market analysis and development of potential leads.

He is Professor and Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London, and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, London. He established and led the Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Unit and Department of Infection at UCL. He has worked in the fields of Infectious Diseases for many years and has particular interest in Meningitis, Sepsis, Innate Immunity, premature labour and HIV. He has been a member of several boards including the Wellcome Trust, MRC, and Action Medical Research. He has published more than 400 papers and supervised more than 50 PhD students of which 30 have been Clinical Fellows. He is currently on the Paediatric Medicines Expert Advisory Group of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency and leads the Paediatric Programme in the Wellcome Trust funded Africa Health Research Institute in South Africa.
